Welcome to the Farm Stand

The Grey Dog Flowers farm stand officially opened its doors on Mother’s Day Weekend 2025. What started as a simple shed - bare studs, plywood floors, exposed framing - has grown into a welcoming place for local flowers and community connection in the Asheville area. With just a table, a cloth, and a hand-lettered chalkboard sign, I turned the sign to OPEN and began sharing seasonal flowers straight from the field.

The farm stand is designed to be an experience to come and enjoy. Visit the Little Free Library next to the parking area for books to be exchanged. Grab one to take home, and drop off one you finished. There are books for all ages, and anyone is welcome to come take book home, or just sit and read at the shaded, creekside picnic table behind the farm stand.

In the summer months, don't miss the sunflower planting station. It’s located near the outdoor sink and is open to anyone who wants to pot up a few seeds and take a bit of sunshine home.

Whether you’re stopping by for a bouquet of locally grown flowers, looking for a quiet moment in nature, or bringing home a sunflower to grow, the Grey Dog Flowers farm stand is here to offer a warm, seasonal, and distinctly Asheville experience.

All the Flowers

At the flower farm stand in Mills River, everything runs on the honor system. The stand is entirely self-pay - no staff, no checkout counter - just trust. Payments can be made easily through QR codes linked to Venmo or our website, and cash is also accepted

A quick note about why this matters: I grew up in a small town where trust was second nature. People left their car doors unlocked, everyone knew each other’s name, and as a kid, you couldn’t get away with much because someone always knew your mom. That kind of trust shaped how I view community and how I run this flower stand.

The honor system here isn’t just about convenience—it’s about building something deeper. It allows us to create a space that feels welcoming, respectful, and rooted in mutual care. I trust anyone who visits the stand to pay fairly, and you can trust that I’ll always offer fresh, high-quality flowers grown right here on the farm.

This system allows for more than just buying local flowers—it fosters a shared sense of responsibility and belonging. When we choose to trust each other, we help create a stronger, more connected community.
