U-Pick is Now Open!

Come experience the magic of U-Pick flowers at Grey Dog Flowers, just outside Asheville in Mills River, NC. Self-guided flower picking is open to the public - no appointment needed. Stroll through rows of sunflowers, zinnias, cosmos, and wildflowers, and leave with your own hand-cut bouquet.

A Relaxed, Self-Guided Flower Picking Experience

If you’ve ever dreamed of walking through a field of flowers with clippers in hand, this is your chance. At Grey Dog Flowers, the U-Pick experience is casual and open to all - no reservations or flower knowledge required.

We provide everything you need: a bucket, sharp garden clippers, and acres of colorful blooms to explore. It’s a perfect afternoon outing, solo adventure, or weekend treat with friends.

Located just 25 minutes south of Asheville off Old Haywood Rd/Hwy 191 in Mills River. Follow the road signs and park next to the blue farm stand.

U-Pick Hours:
Weekdays 7 am - 6 pm

Weekends, 9 am - 6 pm

Closed Tuesdays

U-Pick Flower Pricing

 

Keep it simple: pay by the container, not by the stem.

 

Small Bucket – $25

Perfect for smaller bouquets with shorter stems. 

 

Large Bucket – $45
Ideal for longer stems and fuller arrangements.

Payment: Cash, card, and Venmo are accepted at the self-serve stand. 

How - To Guide

​

A few things have changed for 2026, so please read through the Guide:
​

  • No Waiver this year: There is an NC Agrotourism sign at the Farm Stand. By choosing to participate in the U-Pick, you are agreeing to the terms on the sign.

  • U-Pick rows are labeled: Please only cut from the labeled U-Pick rows. Other rows are not yet ready for cutting.

  • Choose a Bucket Size: Large ($45) and small ($25) buckets are provided in the farm stand. You can always change sizes before you pay.

  • Pay at the end: Once you're finished, please return the clippers and buckets. To-Go cups are available for your convenience.

What to Know Before You Visit the U-Pick Fields

To make your flower picking visit easy and enjoyable, please note:
​

  • No reservation required. U-Pick is open any time the farm stand is open.

  • Outdoor only. Expect uneven ground, minimal shade, and no bathrooms on site.

  • Bee & critter alert. You may encounter bees, poison ivy, blackberry thorns, and the occasional groundhog hole. 

  • Kid-friendly (with supervision). Children under 12 must stay close and cannot use clippers.

  • Dogs allowed (on leash). Please keep them out of the flower beds.

Do I need to book a time?
Nope! Just come during farm stand hours.

Is it okay to bring kids or dogs?
Yes! Kids must be supervised, and dogs must be on a leash, and please pick up any waste.

Can I take photos in the flower field?
Yes! We love seeing your photos. For professional shoots, please email beforehand: hello@greydogflowers.com

What should I bring?
Water, closed-toe shoes, sun protection, and your creative energy.
